Obituary for Leo Edward McEnroe

Leo Edward  McEnroe
Leo Edward McEnroe, Jr., 82, a lifelong resident of Amenia, NY, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, CT. Mr. McEnroe was a dairy farmer who along with his brothers owned and operated Wind Swept Farm in Amenia, NY for 57 years.

Born on August 9, 1931 in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the son of the late Leo E. McEnroe, Sr. and Dorothy (Belter) McEnroe. He attended Immaculate Conception School in Amenia, NY and was a Class of 1950 graduate of Amenia High School. Mr. McEnroe was an outstanding athlete who played baseball on the Amenia Town Team and the Inter-State League. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers.

Mr. McEnroe was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the Amenia Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Amenia Lions Club and served on the Board of Directors of Agway, Inc. Mr. McEnroe received a Certificate of Recognition from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Dutchess County for 50 years of dedicated service.

Mr. McEnroe was a loving brother and is survived by two brothers, Joseph McEnroe and his wife, Barbara, of Amenia, NY and James McEnroe and his wife, Abigail, of Burlington Flats, NY and two sisters, Dorothy Casey of Kent, CT and Margaret Wilcox and her husband, Gerald, of Amenia, NY. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marie Scalli McEnroe and a brother-in-law, Jack Casey.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Rd. Amenia, NY. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Amenia, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Rd., Amenia, NY 12501.
