Condolences

Condolence From: Jim Utter
Condolence: Our prayers and warm thoughts go out to Helen and the rest of the Mostachetti family as we fondly recall memories of Leo while we mourn our loss of this special man.

Leo and Helen were such a pleasure to work with as we talked about protecting their land and moved towards establishing the Slocum-Mostachetti Preserve ten years ago. This preserve became a reality and is now a wonderful legacy of these families which are so important in the area’s history.
Leo enjoyed the outdoors, especially his days of hunting and fishing, and he loved to talk about them. But he also enjoyed just strolling along the trails he maintained on the site, which we did frequently while talking about the plants, animals, and history of the land. His recollections of the past, along with Helen’s, added an important depth to my understanding of the future preserve. As the process moved along or stalled, Leo’s desire to make this happen and his patience carried us through to the ribbon-cutting. Friends of the Great Swamp (FrOGS) and The Oblong Land Conservancy, thank Leo and his family for making this exceptional Great Swamp site available to the public for education and enjoyment.

Whenever I am there, I see Leo's smiling face and know he is proud of protecting this for future generations. We will all miss him.
