William J. Yeno, Jr., 98, a lifelong resident of Dover Plains, NY, died on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Mr. Yeno was employed at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY for ten years as a staff attendant and 27 years as the head chauffeur. He was also the former owner of the Dutchess Motor Lodge and owned and operated Wingdale Discount Beer and Soda in Wingdale.

Born on June 10, 1917 in Dover Plains, NY, he was the son of the late William J. Yeno, Sr. and Mary Kovach Yeno. Mr. Yeno proudly served in the United States Army 29th Infantry during World War II and from 1942 to 1945 was stationed in England. During that time he received glider and combat training and served in the Invasion of Normandy. An Army machine gun sergeant, he spent 27 months overseas in combat service. He received the Liberation Ribbon, the World War II Victory Silver Star Medal for service during the Battle of the Bulge and an Arrowhead for the Invasion of Normandy on Omaha Beach on D-Day. In all, he received five Bronze Battle Stars for service during campaigns in Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and the Rhinelands along with the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Army Glider and Parachute Badge.

For 31 years, Mr. Yeno was an exempt fireman with the J. H. Ketcham Hose Company in Dover Plains. He was a former Town of Dover constable, a life member of the V.F.W. Post # 5444 in Dover Plains and life member of the American Legion Post #1949 in Wingdale.

He is survived by two sons, William R. Yeno, III of Dover Plains, NY and Joseph G. Yeno of Wingdale, NY; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and former wife, Augusta Heady Yeno, he was predeceased by six sisters, Helen Sutton, Mary Barnes, Irene Kenney, Josephine Yeno, Anna Yeno McCarthy and Theresa Zulkowski and a brother, Edward Yeno.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. American Legion Post #5444 will conduct services at the funeral home at 6:15 p.m. and V. F.W. Post # 5444 will conduct services at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 83 Mill St., Dover Plains, NY.
