Obituary for Lawrence Daniel "Speed" Buckley

Lawrence Daniel “Speed” Buckley, 80, a lifelong area resident and 25-year resident of Sharon, CT, died on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. Mr. Buckley owned and operated the Chateau Tavern in Amenia, NY for 35 years.
Born on June 9, 1937 in Sharon, CT, he was the son of the late Newton F. and Margherita (Sartori) Buckley. Mr. Buckley served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962 and was stationed in Germany. On July 14, 1969 in Las Vegas, NV, he married Ann McGlashan who died on January 4, 2014.
Mr. Buckley was a member of the NYS Liquor Dealer’s Association.
He is survived by a son, Lawrence D. Buckley, Jr. of San Francisco, CA and a brother, Lewis E. Buckley and his wife, Linda, of Amenia and two nieces, Deborah Murphy of Baytown, TX and Lisa Leaman of Nashville, TN. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by a brother, Newton Sherwood Buckley.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Amenia Lions Club, P.O. Box 472, Amenia, NY 12501.
