Obituary for Leo Anthony Reed Jr.

Leo Anthony  Reed Jr.
Leo Anthony Reed, Jr., 87, a lifelong resident of Dover Plains, NY, died on Friday, December 29, 2017 at his home in Dover Plains. Mr. Reed was an iron worker for the Iron Workers Local #417 in Newburgh, NY for 44 years, retiring in 1994.

Born on June 10, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Leo A. Reed, Sr. and Catharine (Higgins) Reed. Mr. Reed was a graduate of Dover High School class of 1949. On April 30, 1955 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains, NY he married Lona Morey who survives at home.

Mr. Reed was a life member of the Harlem Valley Golf Club. He was also a member of the Elks Club in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mr. Reed was inducted in the Dutchess County Baseball Hall of Fame for throwing a perfect game. Mr. Reed was also a fourth-degree member of the Knight of Columbus in Pawling, NY and a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Reed is survived by his four daughters, Sheri Ann Brown and her husband, Wallace of Jacksonville, FL, Jessie Ellen Reed of Phoenix, AZ, Stacey Reed of Hopewell Jct, NY and Jayni Joyce and her fiancé Joseph Langdon of Tallahassee, FL. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Christina Merkl and her husband, Ryan, Danielle and Stephanie Joyce and Taylor and Jordyn Howlett and two great-grandchildren, John and Braedon Merkl. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 62 Mill St., Dover Plains, NY. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Dover Plains, NY. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Church, 83 82 Mill St., Dover Plains, NY 12522.
