Martin D. Jones
Martin D. Jones, 78, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, died on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at New Milford Hospital in New Milford, CT. Mr. Jones worked for many years as a developmental aide at Wassaic Developmental Center in Wassaic, NY. After his retirement, he worked as a school bus driver for First Student Transportation in Dover Plains.

Born April 15, 1940 in Oneonta, NY, he was the son of the late Arden M. and Ruth (Constable) Jones. On July 4, 1992 in Enosburg Falls, VT, he married Arlene Jewett who passed away on February 19, 1997.

Mr. Jones served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the American Legion in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was also member of the Moose Lodge in Santa Monica, CA.

Mr. Jones is survived by two stepsons, Charles and Brian Stillson and five step grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Arden Marley Jones.

A student who rode Marty’s bus wrote this poem in his honor:

My Bus Driver

I see him every day,
He always wears a different cap.
One days he’s wearing Giants,
If they don’t win, he’ll make a switch to the team that won.
When I don’t make the bus in the morning, he’ll say “Where were you?”
After that he says, “ You ain’t been on for a week!”

He loves one radio station, it’s on every day,
It’s 50’s music or Italian restaurant advertisements.
When it’s noisy he gets cranky and says, “Be quiet everybody I’m driving!”

He sounds like an old grump,
But he’s sweet, he’s kind and oh so funny on the inside.
My bus driver is caring.
My bus driver is Marty.

There will be no calling hours. Gravesides services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at South Amenia Cemetery in Wassaic, NY with Pastor Kathleen Meyerson officiating. To send the family an online condolence, please visit www.hufcutfuneralhome.com.
