Obituary for William Wesley Rundall

William Wesley  Rundall
William “Billy” Wesley Rundall, 40, of Kent, CT died on Friday, September 6, 2013 at New Milford Hospital in New Milford, CT from multiple system atrophy disease. Bill was employed as a park maintainer with the State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Service at Lake Waramaug State Park, Mt. Tom State Park and Camp Columbia. He was also employed as a night custodian for the Kent Center School and Shepaug School District.

Born on August 18, 1973 in Sharon, CT, he was the son of Robert and Susie (Goodsell) Rundall of Kent, CT. He was a graduate of Kent Center School and Housatonic Valley Regional High School. Bill earned an American Farm Degree from the National Future Farmers of America, attained the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Woodmen of the World Society in Omaha, NE. He completed an Associate’s degree in Park Recreational Management from Northwestern Connecticut Community College in Winsted, CT.

Bill was very active member of the Connecticut Forest Fire Fighting Crew throughout the state, he attended many educational opportunities on the East Coast for mechanics, leadership and cause and determination of forest fires. He was also very active in promoting Forest Fire Prevention activities and would show up wearing the “Smokie the Bear” costume at Kent parades and Fire Prevention week events at local schools. With his father and brother on Fuller Mountain in Kent, he raised Polled Hereford cows for 35 years supporting agriculture in Kent. He was a 21-year veteran member of the Kent Volunteer Fire Department and a former assistant chief. He was also a member of the Warren Fire Department in Warren, CT.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Margaret Goodsell of Kent, CT, a brother James Rundall and his wife, Jessie, of Kent, CT and a niece, Melanie Rose Rundall of Kent, CT. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Edward Goodsell and his paternal grandparents, Wesley and Rose Rundall.
